The Centre of the Storm (Cultivating Equanimity) – led by Jenna Ghouse
Gain and loss, praise and blame, fame and disrepute, pleasure and pain: by the nature of our worldly existence we are constantly buffeted by the vicissitudes of everyday life. We cannot avoid this, nor can we hope to control the events and situations that life throws at us: but what we can begin to practise with is our response to these situations. So how can we develop a sense of equanimity in the face of the ever-changing and often challenging conditions of the world? And can we discover a way to remain fully engaged, experiencing life with all its ups and downs, yet find a place of inner stillness – the calm at the centre of the storm?
The day will include periods of sitting and walking meditation, reflections and sharing on the theme. Meet in the Retreat Centre Kitchen from 9.30am. There will be a short orientation talk at 9.45 and we will then gather in the Retreat Centre shrine room for a 10.00am start.
Please bring already prepared vegetarian food for a shared lunch if you can. The day finishes at 5.00pm. No booking is required. There is no fee although donations towards the Retreat Centre are always appreciated. Those new to Buddhism or this tradition are welcome.
